“This is a critical week for the education of the world’s poorest children,” Alice Albright, GPE’s Chief Executive Officer said yesterday at an unprecedented Learning for All Ministerial Meeting at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. World leaders renewed commitments to help low-income countries to get
out-of-school children in school and learning before the end of 2015. Read the full press release here.

The picture shows World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, actress Freida Pinto and Shabana Basij-Rasikh who has founded the School of Leadership Afghanistan (SOLA) at a rally for the education of girls and women. The public event took place after the Ministerial Meeting at the World Bank in front of a packed audience. They spoke about the human right of every girl to go to school and get an education.

“I am one of the lucky 6% of educated women in Afghanistan,” Shabana Basij-Rasikh said and added that we cannot dismiss the gap in girls’ education in Afghanistan as a cultural norm. “It’s a problem, and we can fix it,” she said. Watch the recorded webcast session here.
